The Design Process

Six stages, from your first message to launch. They're the same six stages on your client dashboard, so you always know where your project stands. Open a stage, or scroll, and follow your project on the dashboard.

About 2–4 weeks from the deposit to launch. Most of it is building and your review.

Estimates. Your timeline depends on the size of the project and how quickly content and feedback come in.

  1. Submit QuoteA few minutes
    You

Tell us about your business, pick a package or describe something else, and send the form.

    We

Read it and send questions or a fixed price, usually within one business day.

    On your dashboard

We have your request and usually reply within one business day. Add your details whenever you like.

  2. ProposalUsually within 2 business days
    You

Read the proposal and sign it.

    We

Write the proposal: what's included, the price and the dates.

    On your dashboard

A proposal is being prepared. Work starts after it is signed.

  3. DepositUsually the same day
    You

Pay the 50% deposit. It is non-refundable, apart from the exceptions in your signed agreement.

    We

Hold your start date and send the list of what we need: logo, photos, hours, service area and notes.

    On your dashboard

The deposit is the step that unlocks the build.

  4. BuildingAbout 1–3 weeks
    You

Send your logo, photos and notes. Never passwords.

    We

Design and build every page, phone first.

    On your dashboard

Digital Works Forge is working on this website.

  5. Draft reviewChanges usually made within about 3–5 days
    You

Open your private review link, pin comments and approve each page.

    We

Make the changes you ask for, one round at a time.

    On your dashboard

A draft is ready to review. The builder stays with the developer.

Example. Nothing here is sent. A copy of the review page we give you. Open a pin, click the page to add your own, then approve it.

    How draft review works

    • A private link, just for you

Your draft opens on its own review page. No one else sees it before launch.

    • Pin a comment anywhere

Tap the spot on the page, write what should change, and it stays pinned right there.

    • Approve page by page

      • HomeApproved
      • ServicesReady
      • ContactReady

A new comment on an approved page puts it back to Ready, so nothing slips through.

    • Rounds you can follow

      In reviewChanges requestedApproved

Spark includes 1 revision round, Forge 2, Forge Plus 3 and Storefront 3.

    • A clean view

You see your pages and your comments. Our working notes stay on our side.

  6. LaunchAbout a day
    You

    Pay the final 50%.

    We

Connect your domain, put the site live in your hosting account or on our care-plan hosting, and fix anything that's off during your fix window.

    On your dashboard

Final payment, then the site is handed off.

Who we are, how we use AI tools and what we check before launch: How we work.

Forge the right direction. Before we build it.

How we test speed

Most people find a small business on their phone, often on a weak signal, so we test our pages the way they browse.

No current result is shown. We test again before a figure goes back up.

Within 30 days of a test, we show its result here and in the footer; after that, or if a result misses Google's mark, we hide the figure until we test again.

How the test runs

  • A mid-range phone in Chrome, with a screen 412 by 915 pixels.
  • Slowed down on purpose: the processor runs 4 times slower, on a 1.6 megabit-a-second connection with 150 milliseconds of delay, like weak mobile coverage.
  • Every load starts fresh, with nothing saved from an earlier visit. We load the page 3 times and report the middle result.

“Main content” is what speed testers call Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): the moment the biggest thing on the screen, usually the main heading or photo, finishes appearing. Google counts 2.5 seconds or less as good.

It is a lab test on our own computer, so your phone and connection will give a different time.

Our promises

What we put in writing, as our Terms say it. If anything here differs from your signed agreement, the agreement wins.

  • A fixed price, in writing. Your proposal sets the price, what's included and the dates. Nothing is billed by the hour.
  • You approve the design before launch. We launch only after you approve the site and your final payment clears.
  • The revision rounds your package lists. You send your changes as one list and we make them together.
  • A fix window after launch. For the days your package lists, we correct anything that doesn't match the agreed scope, at no extra charge.
  • Your domain stays in your name. Host the site in your own account, or let us host it on a care plan, and take it with you any time.
  • Care plans are month to month. They are optional and offered after launch.

What we don't promise: search rankings, leads or sales.
